In what may have been the most challenging artwork in the storied history of the EE Times caption-writing contest, electrofun (aka engineer Joanne Bandlow) takes home the top prize for our May contest with a simple twist on an Elvis classic:
He's been looking for the [RETURN TO SENDER] key.
Bandlow wins a colorized, signed version of Daniel Guidera's cartoon, the thanks of a grateful editor and she's welcomed into the pantheon of EE Times caption Kings and Queens stretching back almost to the days when Elvis was alive!
David Patterson, known for his pioneering research that led to RAID, clusters and more, is part of a team at UC Berkeley that recently made its RISC-V processor architecture an open source hardware offering. We talk with Patterson and one of his colleagues behind the effort about the opportunities they see, what new kinds of designs they hope to enable and what it means for today’s commercial processor giants such as Intel, ARM and Imagination Technologies.
