I am proud to be an engineer. Yes, my wife has given me the cold stare when she finds out I am thinking about physics while staring at sunsets. I also admire the show and take photgraphs, but she can't understand that engineers are always doing multiple things at once.

Nice ones! I circulated this to a bunch of friends who are making it more contextual & localized to Asian versions! MP Divakar

Do you sometimes answer simple math questions in Octal or Hex? Do you often have MCUs on your kitchen counter mixed in with all of the other stuff people accumulate there? Rather than throwing out an old computer, do you feel compelled to scavenge it for any useable parts? When asked by a friend or family member what you did at work today, do you sometimes stop in the middle of the explanation because you've already lost them - and they don't notice that you stopped? When you have a WiFi or cell phone signal drop out, do you try to imagine the signal propagation first and complain second? When an electronic consumer product gets warm, does it bother you because you assume that to keep costs low, they used electrolytics without the proper thermal range?

Hmm, yes, done most of those.   And calculated in my head the impossibility of a USB coffee-warmer.

You hang on to dead CFLs because you might someday have a use for the electronic components in them.

- Why can't computer engineers distinguish Christmas from Halloween? - Because dec(25) = oct(31)

Happened today: I was taking a walk with my wife past a pond, and explained the difference between algae and duckweed. She exclaimed, "I can't believe you knew that! You just know everything!"

you, at least once in your life, tried to calculate the optimum speed for running under rain, in order to keep yourself as dry as possible. user's manuals are often unnecessary. Trial and error method is commonly prefered right after unboxing a new gadget. you store beer only in the lower part of a refrigerator.

You are definitely an engineer if you laughed at this.

Your non-engineer wife has heard you mutter "times e to the j omega t" enough times that she actually knows what it means.

@ Duane I almost corrected you to '1 0'. But thankfully grayness prevailed ;-)

I know I've been way too long in this field when I find it sometimes easier to explain complex life or work issues using a circuit diagram! ( am I :( or :) about that, I'm not quite sure.

I don't know that I've ever done that, but I certainly have wanted to enough times. That and wishing I could use some examples in C to explain something.
