Those looking for ways to cut rising energy costs should look far and wide. Mechanical components like bearings are likely to be overlooked, but they can provide as much as a 30 percent savings, according to SKF.
The Swedish supplier's Energy Efficient bearing line, which begins shipping for industrial applications later this year, has been redesigned to reduce friction and slash energy usage. These bearings fit in standard sizes and have similar lifetimes, but they've been substantially redesigned to operate more smoothly.
The line is part of a new focus on sustainability that will dominate the company's second 100 years. Whether or not you are on the reduced greenhouse gases movement, it's hard to argue with products like this that cut energy expenses.
