Security continues to emerge as a key focus in manufacturing. Open standards bring plenty of benefits, but opening anything up always brings a few threats. A growing number of tools make it simpler to set up good firewalls, accounting for the differences between factories and front offices.
At the same time, RTOS providers are putting more emphasis on security. Partitioning protects one errant task from impacting other programs. It may take a while before plant floor security catches up with front office protection, but thankfully, the number threats are far lower.
