It's just not like putting together consumer products, when you're looking to harness the capabilities of the Internet of Things in an industrial setting. To ease multiprotocol-system, industrial IoT, Echelon unveiled the FT 6000 evaluation and development kit (EVK), IzoT in-a-Box, to speed up both device and application development.
Expectations are that the number of Internet-connected devices (installed base and new shipments) will top 50 billion in just the next 11 years. Of those 50 billion, Echelon estimates that industrial devices, especially in the wireless segment, will represent the fastest growth. However, wired communications will continue to account for more than 50% of all industrial IoT connections.
The IzoT platform comprises an IP-enabled chip family, stacks, interfaces, management software, etc., specifically for industrial IoT development of devices, software apps, and peer-to-peer device communities. The FT 6000 EVK comes complete with five FT 6050 SoCs, two eval boards, an IzoT router to connect the FT-based device network to Ethernet, development tools, and IzoT NodeBuilder software. Devices can support multiple protocols and be backward compatible.
The kit is priced at $895 and will begin shipping in Q2. See order information here.
