It makes perfect sense that Siemens’s Industry Sector and McAfee, a division of Intel Security, are beefing up their partnership to enhance industrial security. Their work together started in 2011, but is now expanding to meet the more frequent attacks in the marketplace and the security management services that Siemens is now offering in the industrial space.
Industrial customers often lack the experience, funds, intelligence (as in knowing what’s happening out there), and infrastructures to manage their own cyber security efforts effectively. Now, as industry standards and governmental regulations evolve rapidly to address cyber security, they are even more under the proverbial gun.
McAfee will help provide visibility, control, and IP-theft risk reduction in firewall, security information and event management (SIEM), endpoint security, and intelligence, thus complementing Siemens’s efforts. Siemens naturally brings to the table its long-standing experience in automation. Together they can establish an intelligent portfolio of services to the industrial plant in security and in optimizing operations.
The two companies will also join in developing new security products and solutions specifically for industrial customers. It is their combined goal to be a significant enabler of Industry 4.0.
