Parsons' Negative Worth

Poor Dick Parsons could never live down that AOL deal of seven years ago. The chief executive of Time-Warner Communications made the expected announcement late in the afternoon of Nov. 5 that he would resign effective Jan. 1, to be replaced by Time-Warner Chief Operating Officer Jeffrey Bewkes. Silicon Alley Insider quipped that Parsons was worth negative $1.5 billion to T-W.

Maybe the AOL merger was dumb. Maybe Parsons didn't make the most of Time-Warner, CNN, and AOL assets over the intervening seven years. But come on, how can investors be so hard on a company that has assets in cable networks, broadcast networks, content-based social networks, and facilities-based transport networks? Particularly when Microsoft claims that little snotty Mark Zuckerberg and his already-dated Facebook network is worth $15 billion. That's ten times in the black what Parsons is worth in the red! I can hardly wait to read Dick Parsons' memoirs.
