SAN FRANCISCO -- Entegris Inc. has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Poco Graphite Inc. for $158 million in cash.
The move expands Entegris' (Chaska, Minn.) offerings. Poco (Decatur, Texas) is a provider of graphite-based consumables for semiconductor and related markets.
In 2007, Poco generated revenues of more than $60 million, of which approximately 40 percent was from sales to semiconductor-related customers.
"Poco, together with the Entegris Specialty Coatings business that we acquired in August 2007, will form the foundation of a materials-based, consumable products business that has a strong presence in semiconductors but is also well-positioned in other growth areas,'' said
Gideon Argov, president and chief executive of Entegris, in a statement.
Entegris has been active in recent times. Last year, materials handling specialist Entegris acquired the assets of the high-purity semiconductor coatings business of Surmet Corp.
In March, Entegris signed an agreement to purchase a 14 percent equity stake in Integrated Materials Inc. (IMI) for $8 million.
Arrowhead Research Corp.'s Unidym subsidiary recently received a $2.0 million investment from Entegris, a fab-tool automation vendor.
NexPlanar Corp. has completed a $14.5 million round of funding to commercialize the next-generation of chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) pad technology for semiconductor devices. InterWest Partners led the round of investment. Other existing investors participated, including BlueRun Ventures, Smart Forest Ventures, Fina Ventures, Intel Capital and Entegris.
