Re: Globalfoundries Laounches Own FDSOI Processes: Sang Kim I try, AKHO. Even if you do all what you have described,  yes, you still require un-dopped 7nm thin SOI for 28nm FDSOI. This is the biggest reason why the bulk 28nm that is in mass production by major semiconductor companies for several years but not 28nm FDSOI yet as I described previously. Samsung as you suggested? Please read below.The other critical issue with FDSOI is the hot carrier reliability. The hot carrier reliability is the biggest issue against FDSOI that doesn't have LDD(lightly dopped drain) that 28nm bulk has. When +1 volt is applied to the gate and the drain, a large number of hot carriers(electron and holes) are generated near the drain. Virtually all electrons drift to the positively biased drain. However, the vast majority of holes drift toward the source through the un-dopped SOI channel, triggering DIBL(Drain Induced Barrier Lowering) similar to forward biasing the source by the positive holes(+). Some holes are trapped also at...

In conjunction with unveiling of EE Times’ Silicon 60 list, journalist & Silicon 60 researcher Peter Clarke hosts a conversation on startups in the electronics industry. One of Silicon Valley's great contributions to the world has been the demonstration of how the application of entrepreneurship and venture capital to electronics and semiconductor hardware can create wealth with developments in semiconductors, displays, design automation, MEMS and across the breadth of hardware developments. But in recent years concerns have been raised that traditional venture capital has turned its back on hardware-related startups in favor of software and Internet applications and services. Panelists from incubators join Peter Clarke in debate.
