SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 operating system will integrate the software stack of the PN544 NFC controller from NXP, according to the Dutch chip company.
NXP Semiconductors NV (Eindhoven, The Netherlands) said that HTC, Nokia and Samsung have all announced Windows Phone 8 handsets with NFC capability.
The near field communications technology allows local connectivity for tapping RF tags with additional information on products and posters and with a secure element provides the basis for economic transactions such as electronic wallets and transport ticketing.
"OEMs can now easily integrate NFC into Windows Phone 8 handsets," said Ruediger Stroh, executive vice president and general manager of the identification business at NXP Semiconductors.
