IMEC working on remote cardiac monitoring

PARIS – IMEC, Holst Center and CardioNet Inc. said they have joined forces to develop cardiac monitoring products integrating ultra-low power ICs.

The partners said this collaboration aims to further advance the use of remote technology to improve the quality of patient care.

The 18-month agreement will combine CardioNet’s proprietary algorithms and back-end infrastructure with IMEC’s expertise in ultra-low power ECG readout ASIC. The project will also leverage Denmark-based Delta's development of the world's smallest ECG electrode patch.

CardioNet is focused on helping physicians diagnose and treat patients with arrhythmias. Ten years ago, the company developed an integrated technology, dubbed Mobile Cardiac Outpatient Telemetry, which is claimed to enable heartbeat-by-heartbeat, ECG monitoring, analysis and response at home or away, 24/7/365.

I know of at least 2 start ups in the Silicon Valley that already have solutions in the market. Last year's and also this year's ISSCC show-cased an SoC to do EEG whose architecture is easily adaptable to ECG as well. I hope what IMEC develops will be improvements over others in functions and power consumption.
