Military ground vehicles require many of the same dashboard instruments as consumer vehicles, but they must survive far more challenging conditions that include temperature extremes, dust and contamination, shock and vibration from uneven roads and ordinance, and more. The instrument clusters that inform the driver of vehicle status ranging from speed to fuel levels and temperature need to be accurate and reliable. That means comprehensive testing.

In a perfect world, instrument clusters would be tested under actual conditions. Given the range and variety of stimuli necessary, that is not always practical from a cost and time perspective. Simulation provides an effective solution. By combining a power supply, a multimeter, a frequency generator, and a switch/load box and plug-in card, an end-of-line functional test system can provide a range of stimuli for efficient input and output testing.
