Slideshow: Navy's Blue Angels soar for Fleet Week

10/12/2012 3:05 PM EDT

The Blue Angels, the U.S. Navy's official flight demonstration squadron, took to the skies over the San Francisco Bay last week as part of the annual Fleet Week celebration.

The Blue Angels F/A-18 Hornets have been a cornerstone of the event since it was re-established in 1981. It is estimated that nearly 1 million people came to San Francisco to watch this year's Fleet Week, which ran Oct. 4 through 8. (Crowds also flocked to San Francisco for the America's Cup yacht racing, which took place Oct. 2 through 7).

The following are a handful of photographers highlighting the dazzling air shows.
