Tower, On Semi team on display chip

LONDON – Tower Semiconductor Ltd., which trades as TowerJazz, has announced it has started collaborating with On Semiconductor to develop a power management IC and voltage level shifter for use in display panels.

The collaboration makes use of the TS35 0.35-micron analog manufacturing process that is designed to support power management. This process offers the ability to generate one boost up voltage and two step-down voltages and two high voltage references. The On Semi device is intended for use in different sizes of LCD and AMOLED panels, Tower said.

The IC is designed to drive both positive and negative 42-V and features a programmable power sequence that allows it to be applied to a variety of applications. It can be used in monitors and televisions and small and large displays.

"For the advanced display panel market, TowerJazz's power management platform was the natural choice because it enables us to produce the most cost-effective products from die size and mask count aspects while leveraging integration strategies to include Vcom, Gamma, and PMIC/HVLS to meet various customer needs," said Simon Keeton, general manager of On Semiconductor's consumer products division, in statement issued by Tower.
