New Medium Enterprises, Inc. (NME), founded in August of 1999 and headquartered in London is an optical storage company manufacturing and marketing HD VMD technology related products.
The primary focus of the company is the development of high definition HD VMD (Versatile Multilayer Disc) DVD players and high definition DVD software. It is currently comprised of three main divisions: The Optical Division which is responsible for the replication of HD VMD software, the Electronics Division that encompasses the manufacturing of drives, players and recorders for the VMD format, and the Media Division which creates playback software and authoring tools for content providers. The company is poised to be a major player in the optical high definition playback business.
The home theater industry has been eagerly following the progression of HDTV in all of its transmission forms since its inception in the fall of 1998. The recent introduction of optical high definition formats is the latest phase of the evolution of high definition television entertainment. Determined to be a leader in the High Definition entertainment business, NME will be introducing two 1080p output HD VMD players to the U.S. market in the third quarter of 2007. The new players will be debuted at the CEDIA Expo in Denver, CO. in early September, 2007. High storage capacity, faster data transfer rates than competing Blu-ray and HD DVD mediums, and highly competitive pricing on both players and movie titles are all bound to make HD VMD a compelling new HD format for the consumer.
The HD VMD format is currently being adopted by content providers and distributors in more than a dozen regions worldwide, including Australia, Brazil, Central Europe, China, France, Germany, Iceland, Japan, Scandinavia, the Middle East, Russia, and the United States. With a collective number of movie titles totalling nearly 4000, and growing, the HD VMD format will have a significant amount of content to offer the consumer. With Blockbuster titles like "Mr. & Mrs. Smith", "Lord of War", "Brokeback Mountain", "Crash", "Hannibal", and "Pulp Fiction" to name just a few, the content selection will also be quite compelling.
