7/4/2011 6:11 AM EDT
The first commercial Light Emitting Diode (LED) was introduced in the 1960s. From its early beginnings as a low intensity red light, the LED has emerged as a highly versatile component, critical to a wide variety of applications. This application guide provides extensive information on various ways to power and control high brightness LEDs. The note covers many of the common problems encountered in powering LEDs, and includes a number of circuit diagrams illustrating input/output circuits; analog/PWM dimming & contol; and protection devices. Also included are a list of common terms and a short history of the development of the LED.
