European distribution group SEI has been granted a pan-European franchise from the Hewlett Packard Components Group, Paris.
Under the expanded agreement with SEI, the distributor will offer HP's infrared, optocouplers, LED displays, motion control, high speed I/O, RF/microwave, LED lamps and indicators, and fiber optic products through all its locations in Europe.
The agreement will mean that in the near future SEI will be able to extend support for HP Components in all countries within the European region where they are currently present, said Derek Tibbitts of Hewlett Packard Europe.
HP currently distributes through SEI in certain European geographies, as well as through EBV Elektronik and certain affiliates of Avnet Inc. and Arrow Electronics Inc., among others. To date, most distribution franchises in Europe are granted on a country-by-country basis, although suppliers and customers are increasingly pushing for all-locations sourcing options through the distribution channel.
SEI, based in the Netherlands, is affiliated with El Monte, Calif.-based Marshall Industries Inc., which also owns a minority stake in the distribution group. SEI and Marshall also have a strategic business alliance with Serial Systems, based in Singapore.
Established in 1976 by the Sonepar Group, and with network sales of over $900 million, SEI is one of the largest European-controlled distributors of electronic components.
The SEI Group offers sales coverage in Austria, Belgium, Belarus, Czech Republic Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovenia, Slovakia, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine and the UK.
