SAN JOSE -- Moving to increase the performance of its PLD design tools, Altera Corp. has acquired Right Track CAD Corp., an independent software developer based in Toronto.
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. However, the deal is not expected to have a material impact on Altera's financial results.
Altera and Right Track CAD have worked together since 1998 to decrease compile times of Altera's programmable logic devices. Right Track CAD's Versatile Placement and Routing core technology is credited with a 30% increase in performance of Altera's MAX+PLUS II version 9.5 development tool.
The acquisition also expands Altera's geographic footprint, with Right Track CAD's base of operations becoming the Toronto Technology Center. Altera last week established a design center in Ottawa with its acquisition of optical networking IP developer, DesignPRO Inc. (see May 1 story). The Toronto operation will work in conjunction with Altera's worldwide R&D facilities to accelerate development of future software and device architectures, Altera said.
