Fourteen electronic industry associations today sent a joint letter to the U.S. Senate leadership urging a vote before the August recess on Permanent Normal Trade Relations (PNTR) for China.
The coalition of associations strongly opposed any political move in the Senate that would delay the China vote until this fall. The alliance asked Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott, R-Miss., and Minority Leader Thomas Daschle, D-S.D., to set a definite date to vote on PNTR before Congress recesses in August. The letter also urged the Senate leaders to oppose adding amendments to the bill that could complicate its passage.
The appeal was made by the American Electronics Association, the Computer Systems Policy Project, the Electronic Industries Alliance, the Information Technology Industry Council, the Semiconductor Industry Association, Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International, the Telecommunications Industry Association, and seven other groups.
