Agilent Technologies Inc. today announced that it has formed a storage networkingdivision to focus on the fast-growing storage area networking (SAN) market.
The division will initially focus on Fibre Channel technology, where Agilent has a strong position through its IC and board-level products. It will also focus on emerging technologies such as InfiniBand and IP SAN that promise to be important standards for the storage market.
Julian Elliott has been named vice president and general manager of the Storage Networking Division after leading Agilent's SAN efforts for the past four years. Elliott will report to Bill Sullivan, senior vice president and general manager of Agilent's Semiconductor Products Group.
Elliott has more than 15 years experience in the computer and storage market, including stints as marketing manager for the Personal Computer Group at Hewlett-Packard Co., Agilent's former corporate parent. He also was vice president of Marketing at BusLogic Inc. He holds a bachelor's degree in physics from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a
master's of business administration from Stanford University.
"The formation of this division is an indication of the success Agilent has had in penetrating the storage networking market," said Elliott in a statement. "This move sends a strong message that we intend to continue to serve this market aggressively. We believe that we have the people and the technologies in place to continue our strong growth."
