Sipex Corp., Billerica, Mass., today announced it will reduce its workforce.
The analog chipmaker said that, "In an effort to meet customer demands to have lower inventory and shorter manufacturing cycle times, Sipex's Wafer Fab and Probe areas located in our Milpitas, CA, facility, will soon be implementing a 24/7 schedule. As a part of this effort, it is anticipated that approximately 4% of our total workforce will be impacted, ultimately, resulting in job elimination.
"The current business conditions demand we change the way in which we operate. Specifically, lead-times from all of our competitors have shortened. This means we must also improve our delivery times if we want to stay competitive."
The company didn't disclose the specific number of jobs that are expected to be eliminated.
