Fujitsu Media Devices Ltd. Wednesday announced it has reached an agreement to acquire Toshiba Corp.'s surface acoustic wave (SAW) filter business for an undisclosed amount.
The two firms said final details are still being worked out, but the deal is expected to be concluded by April 1.
The Fujitsu unit already has a large SAW market presence, and hopes to augment that share by adding the Toshiba business. Fujitsu also hopes to enter the SAW market in video and automotive electronics, where it has no products now but where Toshiba is especially strong.
SAW filters traditionally are used in mobile phones. Fujitsu claimed it is the second-largest supplier of SAW filters to this market.
