Vishay Intertechnology Inc. announced today that a fire occurred on February 13 at its Electro-Films, Inc. (EFI) facility located in Providence, R.I., causing a production stoppage of this product line.
EFI had sales of $15 million during the year ended December 31, 2001. EFI manufactures thin film components including resistors, capacitors, inductors and microwave components. Vishay purchased EFI in May 2000.
"The fire originated in the plating area. At this point we are still trying to assess the extent of the damage," said Felix Zandman, chairman & CEO, in a written statement. "We have a team at the site to review the situation. The building, machinery and equipment and inventory all appear to have sustained some level of damage. Currently no shipments are being made from the EFI facility to customers, and a plan of recovery is being elaborated".
