HSINCHU, Taiwan -- Pushing farther into the realm of chip-design partner, silicon foundry giant Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. today announced the Design Service Alliance, which brings together three key services -- third-party libraries, intellectual property (IP) and IC design implementation -- to help engineers develop system-on-chip (SoC) solutions.
TSMC said a total of 46 partners are in the alliance to provide a range of silicon-verified libraries, IP cores, and tools for design simulation, validation and verification. The alliance also provides access to experienced designers and developers of complex functions, said the large foundry company. All of these IP and design services are being made available directly to designers in fabless semiconductor companies, integrated device manufacturers (IDMs) and systems houses.
"TSMC's Design Service Alliance coordinates an entire value-chain," said Mike Pawlik, vice president of corporate marketing for TSMC. "By utilizing the full range of resources available under this alliance, our customers can achieve better designs, more reliable design reuse, and faster time-to-market. At the same time, the alliance enables flexible design team management, allowing organizations to respond dynamically to changing market conditions."
TSMC's integrated Library Alliance provides a comprehensive collection of process-specific libraries, including standard logic cells, I/Os and embedded SRAM from Artisan Components, Avant!, NurLogic Design, Synopsys, Virtual Silicon Technology, and Xemics. It also encompasses the foundry industry's only documented evaluation process, according to TSMC, and a network of best-of-class third-party library vendors with direct access to technical services and early access to leading-edge, process-specific technologies.
The IP Alliance encompasses a catalog of silicon-verified and TSMC-validated intellectual property for CPUs and MCUs, DSPs, communications and networking, specialty memory, bus interfaces, mixed-signal, radio frequency, and multimedia. MIPS Technologies, Rambus, RocketChips, SandCraft, Synopsys, and Virage Logic are some of the 16 members of the IP Alliance.
TSMC's IC Design Alliance includes electronic design automation (EDA) companies -- including Avant!, Cadence Design Systems, Frequency Technology, Mentor Graphics, Simplex Solutions, Synopsys, and Ultima Interconnect Technology -- and an alliance of some 17 qualified IC design implementation experts located in the United States, Europe, Japan, and Asia.
