EETimes Asia -- Samsung Electro-Mechanics Corp. has decided to sell its electrolytic capacitor business to Samhwa Electric Inc. this year-end.
With the move, Samsung Electro expects to concentrate on photonics devices and related businesses which include MLCCs, PCBs, optical laser pick-up units, digital tuners, RF modules, laser diodes, LEDs, image sensors, and MEMS application components.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics has been producing electrolytic capacitors since 1973. In 1999, the company transferred its electrolytic capacitor manufacturing to China. Currently, the company's monthly production output is at 300 million units.
