A German court this week has entered a judgment that bars importing of Via Technologies Inc. Pentium 4 chipsets into that country, according to an Intel Corp. spokesman Thursday.
A Dusseldorf judge last month made a preliminary ruling that Via had infringed Intel patents with its P4 chipsets. This week's order prohibiting Via Pentium 4 chipsets imports into Germany becomes effective immediately, Intel said.
The judgment was entered against Via Technologies of Taiwan. A separate Intel patent infringement suit against Via Technologies of Germany is still being litigated in that country. Other patent suits between Intel and Via are pending in the U.S. and several other countries.
A Via spokeswoman said the firm was never notified of the separate Intel case against Via Technologies of Taiwan. She said Via is appealing the judgment and seeking a new trial to present its case.
