Semiconductor distribution specialist Unique Memec, an operating division of Memec Group Holdings Ltd. in San Diego, has agreed to design-in and distribute Integrated Circuit Systems Inc.'s timing clock devices in North America.
With less than 10% of the supplier's North American sales pushed through the channel, ICS made a decision to add another distributor to its roster. Nu Horizons Electronics Corp., Melville, N.Y. was ICS' exclusive North American distributor for the past 18 months.
ICS is looking to gain more business from design houses that would push its reference designs into the marketplace and help it penetrate small- and mid-size OEM accounts without having to add to its in-house sales team or manufacturers' representatives, according to a source at the company.
"With proven expertise in design generation and logistics, Memec is a world-class channel partner," said Hock Tan, president and chief executive of ICS, Valley Forge, Pa. "ICS' product offering complements Unique's existing linecard."
Unique Memec's complementary supplier lines include PMC-Sierra, Marvell Technology Group, Actel, Agere Systems, and Q-Logic.
"All complex systems require a clocking device, so the ICS line complements other supplier lines we carry and how we go to market," said Phil Sansone, president and chief executive for Unique Memec in the Americas.
