Two pure-play foundries today separately announced licensing agreements for semiconductor IP from Virage Logic Corp., Fremont, Calif.
China's Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. (SMIC) and Malaysia's Silterra Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. will have access to Virage Logic's Technology-Optimized Semiconductor IP Platform, which includes a portfolio of embedded memories, logic library cells, and standard I/O cells. The companies said the IP will help foundry customers shorten the design cycle for their SOC designs.
The Virage Logic IP will be available in the fourth quarter this year to run on SMIC's 0.18-micron process, while Silterra plans to offer the IP for both its 0.18- and 0.25-micron processes.
The foundries also licensed Virage Logic's First Pass-Silicon Characterization Program as a benchmark for quality assurance testing.
