WASHINGTON Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing and Dialog Semiconductor will join forces under a three-year manufacturing deal potentially worth $250 million.
The partners said the agreement gives Dialog (Stuttgart, Germany), a fabless chip designer that develops and supplies mixed-signal ASICs for wireless, communications and automotive applications, access to Chartered's manufacturing capacity and technology. Chartered (Singapore) gains a new customer for its contract foundry business.
For its part, Chartered will fabricate wafers for Dialog using several generations of process technology down to 0.35 micron. The agreement also gives Dialog access to processes used to embed flash memory and E2PROMs into mixed-signal and system-on-chip ASIC devices.
The partners said they are in talks to extend technology access down to 0.18 micron.
