FCC ruling adds impetus to 60-GHz CMOS development
Now that the Federal Communications Commission has opened
up spectrum for broadband wireless services in the 60- to 90-GHz bands,
designers are challenged to develop low-cost CMOS devices that operate
in the microwave region. But the path from device to system is fraught
with obstacles. Just ask anyone who has ever tried to design a fully
integrated low-power multiple-antenna wireless-LAN radio front end at
60 GHz with conventional silicon technology.
