MANHASSET, N.Y. Vishay Intertechnology Inc. posted a net loss of $54.5 million, or 33 cents per share on sales of $541.6 million in its fourth 2004 fiscal quarter ended December, compared to net earnings of $10.3 million, or 6 cents per share on sales of $567.2 million in the year-ago quarter.
The fourth-quarter net loss includes $75 million worth of costs related to restructuring, severance, asset and inventory write-downs, and losses resulting from adjustments to previous purchase commitments.
For 2004, Vishay (Malvern, Pa.), earned $44.7 million, or 27 cents per share on sales of $2.41 billion, up from $26.8 million, or 17 cents per share on sales of $2.17 billion a year earlier.
Siliconix Inc. (Santa Clara, Calif.), an 80.4 percent subsidiary of Vishay, posted fourth-quarter net earnings of $10.0 million, or 33 cents per share on sales of $106.3 million, down from $10.5 million, or 35 cents per share on sales of $110.8 million a year ago.
For 2004, Siliconix earned $54.8 million, or $1.83 per share, on sales of $466.1 million, up from $39.4 million, or $1.32 per share on sales of $398.1 million in 2003.
