COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Caspian Networks Inc. has signed what could be its most important corporate contract since the routing company was founded.
Caspian will develop flow-state IP routing solutions for the South Korean Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, as part of ETRI's Broadband Convergence Network (BCN) in South Korea. As part of the pact, Caspian will establish its first offshore R&D facility near ETRI headquarters, though Caspian director of marketing Todd Acree said that staffing for the facility has not yet been determined.
Acree said the contract involves more than a research network: ETRI intends to make BCN a nationwide network for use by academia and the public. ETRI will combine elements of Caspian's flow-state technology with its own work in simplified Multi-Protocol Label Switching, or sMPLS.
While much of the research will involve high-layer software development, Acree said Caspian may provide its Apeiro switches as part of the deal.
