MANHASSET, N.Y. Airespace Inc. and Kineto Wireless have demonstrated what they say is the first enterprise class solution for 802.11-GSM convergence, paving the way for the seamless delivery of high-performance mobile voice and data services over secure enterprise wireless networks.
Both companies have certified interoperability between the Kineto UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access) mobile service solution and the Airespace Wireless Enterprise Platform.
Kineto Wireless (Milpitas, Calif.) supplies UMA technology through development tools, software, and support services to mobile silicon/stack suppliers, mobile handset developers and broadband terminal adapter/wireless access point vendors.
Airespace (San Jose, Calif.) designs and develops intelligent wireless networking platforms that support business-critical applications.
"Its clear that voice is one of the key drivers of wireless both today and in the future," said Alan Cohen, vice president of marketing and product management at Airespace, in a statement. "By working with Kineto to ensure seamless interoperability with UMA technology, we are paving the way for widespread Voice over WLAN (VoWLAN) market adoption."
"Business voice calls with UMA-enabled mobile phones will be a major driver of enterprise wireless LANs," said Ken Kolderup, vice president of marketing for Kineto, in a statement. "We are working with Airespace to ensure that carriers can deliver UMA-based mobile services that meet the quality, ease of use and security requirements of the enterprise market."
The companies will continue to test their joint solution to ensure that users receive a consistent and predictable experience when running a UMA mobile service over 802.11 wireless networks. Additional testing will include interoperability with other key wireless service priorities, such as E911 services.
