BANGALORE, India Sonus Networks Inc. said it is opening a software development and regional support center here to focus on developing VoIP applications, especially in software design and quality assurance.
The new center will provide more localized service to its customer base, Sonus (Chelmsford, Mass.) said. The company has engineering centers in the U.K. and U.S.
"The Internet and telecommunications market is developing rapidly. We believe that India is well poised for leadership in emerging next-generation technologies such as VoIP," said Bert Notini, president and chief operating officer of Sonus, in a statement.
Shailin Sehgal, head of Sonus in India, said the new center will help the company continue its momentum in the VoIP market. Plans are to expand the center during the year, he said.
