BANGALORE, India Synopsys has taken on its payroll about two dozen engineers working for Zeta Infotech, a company that had been providing research and development services to it for nearly five years.
The decision to transfer the Zeta staff happened after Synopsys and Zeta mutually agreed to terminate the contract April 1, according to Synopsys.
All the engineers at Zeta were offered jobs at Synopsys India and accepted the offer, said Pradip K. Dutta, managing director, Synopsys (India) Pvt. Ltd. Zeta, based in Manipal in western India. Zeta had been started by a Synopsys employee who chose to offer contract R & D services to the company.
Synopsys still has modeling contracts with other software firms in India, but unlike Zeta's case, this is not core R & D work. Zeta used to work on developing software for FPGA synthesis products for Synopsys. With the Zeta staff now becoming Synopsys employees, the FPGA-related work will be done out of Synopsys in Bangalore.
Meanwhile, several positions are open at Synopsys' centers in Bangalore and Hyderabad. Synopsys is considering new kinds of development that it can take on in these centers, Dutta added.
