SAN FRANCISCO The U.S. District Court issued a ruling on Magma Design Automation Inc.'s motion to dismiss certain claims brought by Synopsys Inc. in the ongoing patent litigation between the two companies.
The court denied Magma's motion to dismiss, based on statute of limitations, five causes of Synopsys' action against Magma.
The court granted Magma's request to dismiss a fraud claim filed by Synopsys, pending amendment of the claim. The ruling gives Synopsys 20 days to amend the fraud complaint.
Both companies claimed the ruling as a victory.
In its second quarter earnings call Wednesday (May 18), Synopsys executives characterized the ruling as legal victory.
Magma issued an announcement about the ruling Wednesday, saying the ruling indicates that it may still show that the statutes of limitations have run out based on the actual evidence. Magma posted the ruling on the company's Web site Wednesday.
