Freyman will be responsible the global supply chain management and manufacturing operations of Skyworks (Woburn, Mass.), including an assembly and test plant in Mexicali, Mexico, and wafer fabrication sites in Newbury Park, Calif., and Woburn.
Freyman previously spent three years in various executive positions at Amkor (Chandler, Ariz.), including an eight-month stint
as president and chief operating officer that ended with his sudden resignation last August. Though no reasons were given from Freyman's deparature, analysts cited Amkor's lagging profitability and stiffening competition from rival semiconductor packaging service suppliers.
Prior to Amkor, Freyman spent 10 years with Motorola, managing its semiconductor packaging operations for portable communication products.
"We are delighted to have Bruce join our team and lead our global operations," said David J. Aldrich, Skyworks' president and chief executive, in a statement. "Bruce's extensive experience with semiconductor manufacturing, and assembly and test facilities will add significant depth to our management team as we focus on gross margin expansion, enhanced customer satisfaction and improved operational efficiencies."
