LONDON Nikon Corp. reported Monday (Aug. 8) that its quarterly operating profit more than quadrupled and raised forecasts for its lithography equipment division in the financial results for its first fiscal quarter.
The increased profits were driven mainly by success in the company’s professional camera business.
Nikon (Tokyo) said its precision equipment division, achieved an operating profit of 5.0 billion yen (about $45 million) in the first quarter on net sales of 47.2 billion yen (about $423 million) following a loss of 900 million yen (about $8 million) in the April-June period last year on sales of 46.6 billion yen (about $417 million)
Nikon kept its annual forecasts, to sell 65 LCD steppers and 185 new chip steppers in 2005-2005 fiscal year, unchanged. It raised the predicted operating profit for the year from 11 billion yen (about $100 million) to 13 billion yen (about $115 million) on unchanged predicted net sales of 230 billion yen (about $2.06 billion), which would compare with 214.3 billion yen (about $1.92 billion) in 2004 to 2005 fiscal year.
