MANHASSET, N.Y. Cypress Semiconductor Corp. has appointed semiconductor industry veteran Brad Buss executive vice president of finance and administration and chief financial officer.
Buss comes to Cypress (San Jose, Calif.) from programmable semiconductor company Altera Corp., where he served in a number of positions, most recently vice president of finance.
Besides Altera, Buss also had stints at semiconductor distributor Wyle Electronics, network company Cisco Systems, and Zaffire Inc., a private optical networking company.
Buss assumes the Cypress CFO position from Manny Hernandez, who took a job in April as chief financial officer of SunPower Corp., Cypress's silicon solar cell subsidiary. Vice president and controller Jeff Osorio was interim CFO during the transition period.
As new CFO of Cypress, Buss faces the task of helping to bring profitability to the semiconductor supplier, which has proven elusive
in recent quarters.
In its second 2005 fiscal quarter ended June, Cypress reported a net loss of $15.3 million, or 12 cents per share on sales of $220.5 million.
