MANHASSET, N.Y. Agere Systems has named Peter Kelly chief financial officer, replacing John Gamble, who accepted a position at another company.
Kelly will continue to report to John Dickson, Agere's president and chief executive.
Kelly joined Agere in September 2000 as vice president of operations for the company’s Integrated Circuits division and was named head of Agere's global operations in Aug. 2001. Prior to Agere, Kelly worked at Fujitsu-ICL Systems Inc., a joint venture between Fujitsu and ICL, where he served as chief operating officer for a year and chief financial officer for three years.
As new CFO, Kelly faces the task of maintaining profitability at the Allentown, Pa., semiconductor supplier, which like other companies has restructured its operations. Agere posted net earnings of $120 million on sales of $433 million in the June 2005 fiscal quarter, following an unprofitable March quarter.
"I am pleased to appoint Peter as chief financial officer," said Dickson in a statement. "He brings a deep understanding of our operations as well as extensive expertise having worked in financial management positions in other companies of various sizes around the world for more than 19 years."
