SAN FRANCISCO IXYS Corp. said Friday (Sept. 16) that a jury found the company not guilty of willful patent infringement Thursday in its patent dispute with International Rectifier Corp. The jury ruled in favor of IXYS on five out of seven issues presented, according to the company.
IR claims that IXYS infringed three of its patents. According to IXYS (Santa Clara, Calif.), the jury found for IR on two claims, one of which could have a material financial impact on IXYS if upheld on appeal. The second finding in favor of IR is minor, IXYS said, and not expected to have a material financial impact on the company.
"I am extremely satisfied by the jury's findings in nearly all respects, and I am confident that the two factual issues decided against IXYS will be reversed on appeal," said Nathan Zommer, IXYS president CEO, in a statement. "To the best of my knowledge, of the many patent infringement cases brought by International Rectifier, this is the first time that a jury has been given an opportunity to decide the issue."
