MANHASSET, N.Y. Communications semiconductor supplier PMC-Sierra Inc. reported net earnings of $5.9 million, or 3 cents per share on sales of $76.2 million in the third quarter ended Oct. 2, compared with $0.5 million on sales of $71.5 million in the previous quarter.
PMC-Sierra (Santa Clara, Calif.) posted net earnings of $6.3 million, or 3 cents per share on sales of $71.2 million in the year-ago third quarter.
"In the third quarter of 2005, we had solid growth in both our metro telecom transport business as well as enterprise storage semiconductors," said Bob Bailey, chairman and chief executive officer of PMC-Sierra, in a statement. "PMC-Sierra also experienced meaningful engagements in voice-over-IP opportunities in Asia this quarter."
High-voltage analog IC supplier Power Integrations Inc. (San Jose) reported net earnings of $5.7 million, or 18 cents per share on sales of $36.5 million in the third quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with $5.0 million or 16 cents per share on sales of $35.3 million the previous quarter.
In the year-ago quarter, Power Integrations earned $5.7 million, or 18 cents per share on sales of $32.9 million.
Power Integrations’ results were affected by litigation expenses related to an ongoing patent suit against System General. That suit is now being investigated by the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC).
