MANHASSET, N.Y. Mixed-signal semiconductor supplier AMIS Holdings Inc. posted third-quarter earnings of $11.7 million, or 13 cents per share on sales of $125.6 million, compared to $16.2 million, or 19 cents per share on sales of $131.2 million in the year-ago quarter.
AMIS (Pocatello, Id.) reported gross margin of 49 percent, down slightly sequentially but up slightly over a year ago. The company completed the acquisition of Flextronics' semiconductor division during the quarter.
The company expects fourth-quarter sales to rise 12 to 15 percent sequentially, with pro-forma earnings per share of 17 to 19 cents.
Communications and storage semiconductor supplier Vitesse Semiconductor Corp. (Camarillo, Calif.) posted a net loss of $68.9 million, or 32 cents per share on sales of $48.2 million in its fourth fiscal 2005 quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with a net loss of $3.1 million, or 1 cent per share, on sales of $52 million in the year-ago quarter.
Fourth-quarter results included a non-cash asset impairment charge of $49.4 million related to write-down of several assets, as well as a $5.3 million charge for inventory write-down.
The company reported softening demand for storage products, as well as delays in customers ramping up Serial Attached SCSI-based storage systems due to spotty availability of next-generation processors.
