MANHASSET, N.Y. After several years in the doldrums, the NOR flash market is gaining momentum and is slated to post 19 percent growth in 2006, according to data from Semico Research Corp.
Semico said NOR revenue has risen steadily from the second quarter of 2004, and is projected to hit $7.2 billion in 2005. Revenue will reach $13 billion by 2008, the firm said.
"The correct that Semico forecast for the second half of 2005 has materialized, reversing 2004's sharp NOR price decline, the result of a supply/demand imbalance," said Jim Handy, director of nonvolatile memory services for Semico, in a statement.
NOR flash is beginning to see stiff competition from NAND flash, but continues to hold its own in applications such as mobile phones.
