SAN FRANCISCO Shares of EDA's three most prominent companies Cadence Design Systems Inc., Synopsys Inc. and Mentor Graphics Corp. declined in very light Nasdaq trading Thursday (Dec. 29).
Cadence (San Jose, Calif.) saw its stock price drop by 14 cents, or 0.8 percent, to close at $17.13. Cadence traded as low as $ 17.04 earlier in the day. A mere 637,178 Cadence shares changed hands, the lightest volume the stock has seen since early September.
Cadence has plummeted more than 6 percent since closing at
a 52-week high of $18.30 on Dec. 12.
Shares of Synopsys (Mountain View, Calif.) declined by 15 cents, or 0.7 percent, closing at $20.23 Thursday on volume of 354,239, the lowest the stock has experienced since late July and the second lowest of 2005.
Shares of Mentor (Wilsonville, Ore.), which entered Thursday up more than 12 percent since Dec. 8, slipped by 2 cents, or 0.2 percent, to close at $10.29.
Shares of Magma Design Automation Inc. (Santa Clara, Calif.) posted an increase of 3 cents, or nearly 0.4 percent, closing at $8.45 Thursday.
Shares of semiconductor industry bellwether stock
Intel Corp.(Santa Clara, Calif.) dropped by 37 cents to close at $25.07.
Unexcited by positive unemployment news from the U.S. Department of Labor, the Nasdaq composite index finished down by more than 10 points, closing at 2,218.
