MANHASSET, N.Y. RFIC semiconductor supplier RF Micro Devices Inc. posted net earnings of $14.7 million, or 7 cents per share on sales of $208.0 million in the third fiscal 2006 quarter ended Dec. 31, 2005, up from $0.58 million on sales of $168.9 million in the year-ago quarter.
In the previous quarter ended September, RF Micro Devices (Greensboro, N.C.) earned $5.9 million, or 3 cents per share on sales of $177 million.
The company attributed the high revenue to strong sales of power amplifier modules, transmit modules and Polaris transceiver solutions, as well as robust sales to handset makers.
Gross margin was 36.1 percent, up from 34.6 percent a year ago and 36.0 percent the previous quarter.
For the fourth fiscal 2006 quarter ended March, RF Micro Devices projects sales of $200 million to $215 million, with net earnings of 5 to 6 cents per share.
