MANHASSET, N.Y. DayStar Technologies Inc., a developer and manufacturer of Photovoltaic Foil products, has created a new operating division to expand its operations. The company has leased a 50,000 square foot facility in Santa Clara, Calif., to house a new Equipment Development Group division.
DayStar presently occupies 23,500 square feet of office and manufacturing space at its Halfmoon, N.Y. headquaters. The company plans to house a third-generation manufacturing line at the Saratoga Technology + Energy Park (STEP), also in N.Y., to expand production capacity in response to growing market demand.
The new Equipment Development Group in Santa Clara will build specialized production tools required by the company’s web-based roll-to-roll deposition systems required for third-generation Photovoltaic Foil production. The solar cell finishing equipment required for Gen III can be sourced through traditional OEM channels and will be combined with the tools built by the Equipment Development Group to complete the expanded factory capabilities in New York.
"Locating our new Equipment Development Group in the heart of Silicon Valley gives us immediate access to very specialized resources, highly trained personnel, control of our development speed, capture of intellectual property, and the cost savings necessary to secure DayStar's competitive advantage with our next generation production lines," said John Tuttle, chairman and chief executive of DayStar.
