SAN JOSE, Calif. Canon Inc.’s semiconductor equipment unit posted sales of 100 billion yen ($855 million) in the first quarter, up 11.3 percent from the like period a year ago.
Operating profit for the unit was 14.5 billion yen ($124 million) in the quarter, up 14.6 percent from a year ago.
Japan’s Canon shipped 55 scanners in the quarter, including 44 for semiconductor fabs and 11 for LCD plants. In the like period a year ago, it shipped 73 units, including 44 for fabs and 29 for LCD plants.
For Q2, Canon’s semiconductor equipment unit projects sales of 111 billion yen ($972.8 million). It projects that it will ship 62 machines, including 39 for fabs and 23 for LCD plants.
