TOKYO The Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association named Naoyuki Akikusa, chairman of Fujitsu Ltd., as its new chairman, at a time when the Japanese electronics industry is growing strongly.
"All sectors of Japan's electronics industry are running in high gear," said Akikusa. He added that Japan's electronics industry entered a recovery phase the second half of last year and is now in a growth phase.
At the end of last year, JEITA forecast the industry's total production value would grow by 2.3 percent to 19.4 trillion yen (about $173 billion). But total production may exceed the forecast, reaching ¥ 20 trillion (about $178 billion), said Akikusa.
Japan's consumer electronics sector showed eight straight months of growth, while PC shipments have surpassed 12 million.
"From components, TVs to mobile phones, all sectors are up and up. The capex is also expected to be at record highs this fiscal year," Akikusa said.
