BANGALORE, India The domestic ASIC market could grow by more than 35 percent to $443 million in 2006, but growth will likely be slowed by rising use of FPGAs.
The communications market will again account for about 75 percent of ASIC use here this year, a study commissioned by the India Semiconductor Association said. It added that telecommunications will account for as much as 94 percent of Indian ASIC consumption by 2015.
During the next three years, declining manufacturing of wireline switches and codecsbig markets for ASICs herewill also contribute to the slowdown.
The FPGA market is expected to outpace ASICs as the technolgy gains market share in sectors like automotive, consumer and industrial applications.
ASIC makers such as Analog Devices, Broadcom, Infineon, Philips, ST Microelectronics and Texas Instruments have development centers here.
